Who, like me, had heard about/read Ender’s Game before the movie started to begin production?
meeee
we read it for school a while back. I liked it. AND I’m pretty excited about the cast. Specifically Asa Butterfield…
I read it when I was in high school (ten years ago, in fact). I’m excited to see how they’re going to make the shower fighting scenes NOT creepy and sexual because Orson Scott Card is a homophobic pedophile.
Yeah I just read about him being homophobic. Is he legit a pedophile? like is there proof behind this or is it just because of that scene? Which was really weird, I couldn’t even really imagine it while reading. In my mind I gave them underwear soooooo they’ll probably give them underwear.
Card is brilliant at writing characters that he doesn’t actually personally agree with. So you’ll read all this stuff in his books that you’ll be like “what?” but he’s just a very very skilled writer.
As for that specific scene - he was basing this in a military setting. People in military settings (as I understand it) get pretty comfortable with their bodies. So it didn’t stand out to me as being weird, because it all seemed logical, considering the circumstances. But no, he’s not a pedophile and I’ve never even heard that accusation before.
As for the homophobe comment - he’s said some things that, especially taken out of context, can seem harsh. However he’s also written extensively on the subject (I always recommend his comments in his review of Mamma Mia! on Hatrack.com) and explained his views in more depth than I see a lot of fans being aware of. I’m not defending him necessarily, just advocating full research before throwing names around.
