Elenatintil: Let's Get Excited About "Ender's Game"

Trailer talk

staircasetotardis:

Just finished Ender’s Shadow. No one talk to me.

I WAS NOT EMOTIONALLY READY FOR THAT.

I thought “Oh I read Ender’s Game already a while ago, I know all about the final battle. I can handle it.” NO, THAT DID NOT HAPPEN. And then Bean clinging to his mom? *falls off bed*

Oh god, both books are so good. Good is not the word. There is no word for how freaking fantastic these books are. I am know increasingly sad that they won’t really be able to make a movie for Bean or that includes so much of Bean’s perspective but I hope they spilled some of it into the movie.

Alright. I will actually post like two videos tomorrow talking about this book because there is so much to talk about and I cannot do it through text.

Wait until you read the rest of Bean’s series…

If any person following me gets the humor of this one, i will marry you. (provided you are female)

This will never not be brilliant.

BWHAHAHAHAHA. Love it.

Earth Unaware - My Review

Don’t get me wrong…

everything-is-nonsense:

I absolutely love the fact that, in a little over a year’s time, I will be able to see my favorite book come to life on screen, but at the same time this fact also makes me feel fairly crestfallen.

When the movie comes out and during the months leading up to it, a hype will no doubt be created and, therefore, finding another fan of the Ender series will not be as surprising or as rare as it is now. I’ve met about two other people who love the Ender series as much as I do, and both encounters were absolutely magical. There’s nothing like finding someone who shares a rare interest with you; there’s just something so irreplicably special about it.

I’m sure the first readers of Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, The Chronicles of Narnia, and the Hunger Games felt exactly the same way I’m feeling right now. I don’t blame them one bit.

Nevertheless, it would be nice to envision my beloved Ender through Asa Butterfield and Valentine through Abigail Breslin. I’m sure they did a terrific job.

I’ve been telling my geek friends that they need to read “Ender’s Game” now, before the hype starts, so that they can be among the ‘old’ fans who didn’t just get into it because it was popular. This did finally manage to convince a friend I’d spent a couple years working on, and he loved it.

wait, so when Petra and Bean are all like “I love you and we need to get married,” Petra is like 14 and Bean is like a really tall 10 year old, right? Or perhaps even younger? Right? Somebody please explain to me why all of a sudden a 14 year old and a 10 year old are like “BABIES! IT IS TOTALLY LOGICAL THAT WE MAKE BABIES!”

No, they’re both older than that. It’s hard to track exact time changes because they’re not really made a big deal of in the books, but at least 6 months pass in Shadow of the Hegemon, because they note this is how long Bean is in Thailand. And then they age more in the later books.

When Bean goes off into Space at the end of “Giant” he is in his mid to late teens - the clock is ticking down. The kids are only a year or so at this point.

Sorry I can’t offer you concrete years, and maybe I’ll pick up more when I finish my reread of the series (on Hegemon now), but that’s as best I can remember.

Just because I’m curious…

Who, like me, had heard about/read Ender’s Game before the movie started to begin production?

meeee

we read it for school a while back. I liked it. AND I’m pretty excited about the cast. Specifically Asa Butterfield…

I read it when I was in high school (ten years ago, in fact).  I’m excited to see how they’re going to make the shower fighting scenes NOT creepy and sexual because Orson Scott Card is a homophobic pedophile.

Yeah I just read about him being homophobic. Is he legit a pedophile? like is there proof behind this or is it just because of that scene? Which was really weird, I couldn’t even really imagine it while reading. In my mind I gave them underwear soooooo they’ll probably give them underwear.

Card is brilliant at writing characters that he doesn’t actually personally agree with. So you’ll read all this stuff in his books that you’ll be like “what?” but he’s just a very very skilled writer.

As for that specific scene - he was basing this in a military setting. People in military settings (as I understand it) get pretty comfortable with their bodies. So it didn’t stand out to me as being weird, because it all seemed logical, considering the circumstances. But no, he’s not a pedophile and I’ve never even heard that accusation before.

As for the homophobe comment  - he’s said some things that, especially taken out of context, can seem harsh. However he’s also written extensively on the subject (I always recommend his comments in his review of Mamma Mia! on Hatrack.com) and explained his views in more depth than I see a lot of fans being aware of. I’m not defending him necessarily, just advocating full research before throwing names around.

So while there’s nothing on this tag

Let me just post and say how I excited I am for the freaking movie before the hype. AHHHHHHH. It was such a good book I hope they don’t trash it. I don’t think they can trash it lol, it’s just that good. While I was able to guess some of the twists, it was a good thing because it was EXACTLY what I wanted to happen. The last twist/chapter just freaking blew my mind though. I haven’t read the rest of the series, but can you blame me? It looks like this:

Did I mention Asa Butterfield (aka Hugo or Mini-Sherlock, etc.) will be playing Ender? I’M IN LOVE WITH HIM, IT’S SO PERFECT. Bean looks amazing. Petra looks amazing. Alai gets and A+. Dink wasn’t black in my head but the fact that he’s black makes it that much better, he’s pretty cute too. Bernard’s good.

Even people who I’m not impressed with I can’t wait to see. (Bonzo being Moses Arias? Eh who knows he could be fabulous. I never imagined Anderson as a woman but I supposed she could be. Abigail Breslin as Valentine? Ehhh well that could work. Peter is all blonde hair and blue eyed and not what I expected but he could be evil.

My body is ready. November 1st, 2013 here I come (crap….that’s a long time)

*freaks out*

Another Ender’s Game fan! Gosh I’ve been so lonely on my dash…
